haute couture

Converting massive brass plates into elegant, friendly and light creations was the main motivation and challenge to the latest pieces. They result in a series of unique objects.

Thin and slightly bended legs open up into a metal body holding a soft wooden top. Two opposite materials, both technically and sensually different, relate with their contrasts and merge into one piece.

The realization refers to the creation of custom fitted clothing – haute couture.

Pieces that are constructed by hand from start to finish, with extreme attention to detail, using time-consuming techniques.

When thinking about shapes and movement of one piece, one can recognize the simplicity of lines as if drawn with own stroke of a brush. Fine and dynamic lines leaving no sharp edges behind.

As working with textile, patterns were cut out of brass plates and stitched together by using welding techniques to create a lining with some parts are left visible and others concealed. Besides gaining stability in the structure, this process leaves each piece with a more unique and personal character rather than just a frozen item.

Surfaces are polished resulting in a soft and pleasant touch as well as a constant play of light and reflections. The appearance is present but remains light and timeless.

Creating Atmosphere

Being more and more concerned with an instinctive and imperceptible dimension in my daily work, I find it best expressed and effective in a physical setting. My current projects and visions stand on a new layer of understanding that reaches out through their physicality but remains elusive and subjective in nature.

Always eager to explore what a room, a building or an outdoor space reveals to its occupants and viewers and what innermost sensitivity can return back to the space, I conceive this relation in a more clear and transparent way. How to translate this seemingly abstract layer that underpins my creative urge ?

As I have grown aware of, anyone joining this creative process brings in a part of himself or herself, a strong interpersonal asset that allows everyone to express its personality while sharing the same spirit. It has become a precondition for this process.

The process invites you, your interests, your feelings to meet my creative approach and that we all share and explore. It is about inviting people, reuniting inspirations and individualities so they all commute and result in a synergy.

A time for Visions

Feeling in the midst of inspiring energies, the current flow of inputs and perspectives draws me to my own visions.

Visions of spaces, visions of merging, visions of moments.

As if the pieces of a puzzle were getting closer from one another, my work gains meaning widening its scope in an unrestrained yet consistent way. May it be the variety of exciting projects or the charm of every collaboration, they all remind me that everything is possible.

Is there an end to this process so dear to me? A process which integrity is essential, every new element or contribution joining this process in an honest, intuitive, careful and motivated way.

I am discovering and embracing a new layer in my creative progression. A layer you don't see much happening, invading my space, reaching yours, conquering my interior, my mindset.

This imperceptible dimension is becoming fundamental in my work. It is one that rests on instinctive connections, common hidden grounds and, exposes tensions with harmony making this layer as powerful as unpredictable.

Am I tinking about a visionary? Or, what does being a visionary entail? A big word for an instinctive act.

On the notion of growth, the collective & my challenges.

As seasons follow each other at a steady pace, my own "journey to why" evolves through time and the constant challenges that my practice presents.

The journey unveils itself to me and I don't hold learning,
don't pause being surprised, being confused or curious and eager moving ahead.

Next stop of this journey: Art Basel (June 19-22, 2014)

In the middle of spring after a few months of contemplation and dedicated work, the word growth spontaneously comes to my mind, a word that has always accompanied my creations and that I want to transform along this journey to the Process.

Moving away from the idea of "one-man-show", I am enthusiastic to see how the Collective is growing, nurtured by inspiring and inspired assistants link to the studio's blog -, and diverse unknown, but essential contributors. This definitely adds to my artistic growth, in a creative process that I cannot separate from this team spirit we have all experienced lately, everyone making his own contribution to it.

With the wish of seeing this process sustains itself one day, I progress on the rhythm of exciting new challenges I am taking on each day. Art Basel, ongoing commissioned pieces and new projectskeep the pressure in the air, positively fostered through the collective that is steadily firming up.

I am growing. My way of taking responsibility for this growth is to rise to these challenges. A growth which shall complement my self-imposed ambition for achievement and be alligned with the exalting value that a strong collective can create.

Getting Back to the Basic: The Philosophy, The Thought, The Reflection, The Vision, The Work, The Process!

Comes a Moment, Moments when I reflect on my work, when the why becomes pressuring, an unsolvable question which snips of answer can only be found in the process (and its dynamic).

An event, a commissioned piece, a project, a day at the atelier/studio, all initiate a reciprocity of 'give & take' that feeds my work.

The pieces I made so far have set a foundation and strengthen/enhance my confidence, the confidence that wants the pieces and coming projects to acquire a wider dimension, never predicted, always encouraged.

It is not solely about the piece as such. Withdrawing from the notion of a mere material object, a contemporary design product, one experiences it, relate it to his own surroundings, emotions, states of mind. It is precisely this relation that I want to explore further.

Further deepen the responsibility that I have always felt towards my work, a responsibility that may be felt like a weight but which constantly finds new expressions and constellations. Exploring these possibilities opens my mind and widens my creativity.
